I'm going into my senior year of college as a Communications major. Entering into college, it was nerve-wrecking having to categorize yourself almost immediately into a major which will define your main career choice for the rest of your life. It was a toss up between early childhood education and communications. I thought to myself " I love kids and am good with them, and a teaching job will be guaranteed and more practical." I was wishy-washy about being a communications major when I began college because, now looking back at it, I didn't fully understand the major. As I became a junior and started going out in the classroom, I began to realize how I didn't want to become a teacher. It started to sink how I would be stuck in a classroom all day every day! I've done it for 15 years, I don't want to do it for the rest of my life!!! LOL. Also my mind started to weigh heavily on me that I should take the leap of faith and go after my real dreams while I'm still young or I will regret it. I talked to teachers, friends, and family about the communications major and learned about all the aspects involved in it, not just television or radio. All of my interest goes into pop culture, celebrities, television, movies, music, and social media. So last semester I took the plunge and switched my major to Communications, with just three semesters left, I was ready and eager to put in the hard work to come out with a communications degree! I have never looked back and have never regretted it since. It is the best feeling in the world to know in you're heart that you are on the right path to fulfilling your dreams and doing what you love and are truly passionate about. The future is exciting.
Moral of my story is, you're only given one life to live, so why waste it away? You're in charge of your own happiness. You should follow your wildest dreams and work hard to make them a reality. "Do what you love, and you'll never work a day in your life."
