Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival at Franklin Square

I love Philly, because there is honestly never a dull moment! There is constantly something fun and unique popping up all over our city.

Last night my man and I went to check out the annual pop up at Franklin Square, the Chinese Lantern Festival. It was such a cool festival to walk through and see all of the beautiful huge lanterns all over the square on a crisp Spring night. One display was more magnificent than the next, ranging from a giant walkway of zodiac symbols to a ginormous underwater theme display with giant jellyfish and other  sea creatures.

The festival also offers traditional Chinese eats and crafts as you stroll through the Square, admiring the lanterns. This year at the festival there will be performances offered every thirty minutes as well as handicrafters offering sugar painting and traditional Chinese hand drawings, and much more.

Also, be sure to check out the newly rebuilt 200 foot Chinese Dragon, the fan favorite of the festival, located in the center of the Dragon Beer Garden. I learned last night, that most of the materials for the festival were actually created and designed in China and shipped to the US for the event!

The festival officially opens tonight, May 9 from 6-10pm, and goes through June 11th, open daily and open until 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. For more information on the festival click here.

Be sure to go check it out, when you're looking for something fun to do in Philly one night, you will not regret it! And trust me, the festival makes for perfect photo ops to step up your insta-game! 😉

Here are all of the photos I captured at the festival

Chef Delco: Fancy Truffle Pasta

Tonight I surprised my family with a new dish I created on the spur! I just had to share with you all because it was slammin'! I saw this bottle of truffle oil in our pantry and thought ooh fancy! It sounded different and I never cooked with it before, so I decided to be inventive with it!  Estimated total cook time was 30-40 mins.  I created the magical pasta dish as follows: I cooked 1 1/2 cups of chopped fresh mushrooms, 2 shallots chopped long ways and thin, and 1 large clove of fresh garlic in a little less than 1/3 cup of truffle oil in a pan. I cooked the penne as I let the mushrooms and shallots mixture simmer over low heat on the stove to cook through in the truffle oil. After the pasta was cooked I drained it and returned it to the pot with about a table spoon of the starchy water still remaining in the pot. Then I mixed in the mushroom and shallot mixture into the pasta, along with a cup of grated parmesan cheese, and an extra drizzle of the truffle oil.  The f...

My 1st Delco Beautorial: Ooh La La!

Bonjour! Sorry it's been  a while since I last posted! I was feeling very French inspired today! It could have just been because my sweater says "ooh la la" on it, or the fact that I've been randomly craving french macarons for the past 24 hours.. Who knows! On my way home from work I made a quick detour to Crêperie Béchamel in Wayne to pick up some macarons! Randomly getting French macarons on a Thursday... Who do I think I am Blair Waldorf? In my defense, it's almost the weekend and I've made it this far in the week without oversleeping for work a single day, so like the saying goes "Treat yoself!" It just so happens I recently purchased three of the NYX macaron lippies and I've been dying to try them out. This season is all about rocking unusual and bold lip colors so I wanted to try 3 out of the ordinary shades! I bought the colors Rose (Barbie pink), Earl Grey (light blue), and Pistachio (pastel green). So to go along with my Fren...
