Mocha Cake With Nutella Italian Meringue Buttercream

Previously Pop Culture Primadonna I've decided to tweak my blog a little bit to focus mainly on my two passions: fashion and baking! So welcome to the new blog: Frosting and Fashion!  To celebrate this update, I thought I would kick things off with something a little fancy! As I was searching through Pinterest recipes, with a bad case of Italy on the brain anxiously awaiting my Italy trip in October, I decided to spend my Saturday night whipping up a Mocha Cake with Nutella Italian Meringue Buttercream totally from scratch!  It sounds super fancy and impressive but the  recipe is kind of easy (shhh!). It's easier than you think to have  la dolce vita;) The cake turned out great for my first time making it and it's currently getting devoured by my family lol. The Italian meringue buttercream is what's getting commented on the most because it's so yummy and its literally like a cloud- so light and different from your norm frosting! For the mocha cake: 1 2/3

Chef Delco: Fancy Truffle Pasta

Tonight I surprised my family with a new dish I created on the spur! I just had to share with you all because it was slammin'! I saw this bottle of truffle oil in our pantry and thought ooh fancy! It sounded different and I never cooked with it before, so I decided to be inventive with it!  Estimated total cook time was 30-40 mins.  I created the magical pasta dish as follows: I cooked 1 1/2 cups of chopped fresh mushrooms, 2 shallots chopped long ways and thin, and 1 large clove of fresh garlic in a little less than 1/3 cup of truffle oil in a pan. I cooked the penne as I let the mushrooms and shallots mixture simmer over low heat on the stove to cook through in the truffle oil. After the pasta was cooked I drained it and returned it to the pot with about a table spoon of the starchy water still remaining in the pot. Then I mixed in the mushroom and shallot mixture into the pasta, along with a cup of grated parmesan cheese, and an extra drizzle of the truffle oil.  The finished pr

My 1st Delco Beautorial: Ooh La La!

Bonjour! Sorry it's been  a while since I last posted! I was feeling very French inspired today! It could have just been because my sweater says "ooh la la" on it, or the fact that I've been randomly craving french macarons for the past 24 hours.. Who knows! On my way home from work I made a quick detour to Crêperie Béchamel in Wayne to pick up some macarons! Randomly getting French macarons on a Thursday... Who do I think I am Blair Waldorf? In my defense, it's almost the weekend and I've made it this far in the week without oversleeping for work a single day, so like the saying goes "Treat yoself!" It just so happens I recently purchased three of the NYX macaron lippies and I've been dying to try them out. This season is all about rocking unusual and bold lip colors so I wanted to try 3 out of the ordinary shades! I bought the colors Rose (Barbie pink), Earl Grey (light blue), and Pistachio (pastel green). So to go along with my Fren

Meatballs, Mob Wives, and Merlot.. Oh My!

Last night my cousin and I wanted to go "balls-to-the-walls" crazy and try somewhere new for dinner last night! So we decided to attend the grand opening of the new restaurant Me N Mo Meatballs at  214 South St Philadelphia, PA 19147.      The concept of the restaurant is very unique! Me N Mo Meatballs offers customers a variety of different types of meatballs. The grand opening party had a ton of different flavors, from buffalo chicken to spicy pork meatballs alon with gnocchi, bread, and salad as sides for customers to sample. My cousin and I sampled every flavor meatball there and each one was delish! We seriously must've eaten like 30 meatballs combined between the two of us..(How many of you can say that?! LOL)      The owners were very accommodating and friendly the entire time. They made sure there were plenty of food and seats to go around. Also there was an open bar available where people could sip on "winter sangria to warm their heart" whil

Rainy Day Chocolate Kiss Cookies!

Rainy cold weather never fails to give me the "baking bug!" I'm a Pinterest fanatic, I'm always pinning new recipes to try on rainy stay-at-home days like today! I hit a sale on Christmas candy yesterday at CVS, and they had bags of Hershey kisses for $.99! What's the difference after you peel off the red and green wrappers? LOL. I found this recipe on www.annies-eats.com but just substituted Hershey kisses instead of the chocolate chips! They're great to share with a good friend and a cup of hot chocolate to escape the cold weather and get your chocolate fix! See the recipe for these double chocolate kiss cookies below:

Getting Down 2 Motown At The Academy!

Last night I braced the cold weather and went on a mommy/ daughter date to see Motown the Musical at the Academy of Music in Philly. I love oldies music so I was excited, and it was cool to enjoy the show with my mom who grew up listening to the music! Motown the Musical told the behind the scenes story of how Motown Records all started and the journey and success of the record company, founded by Berry Gordy. It was interesting for me, as part of a younger generation, to find out the history behind the music I like to listen to!  The show featured many artists from The Supremes and Smokey Robinson to Stevie Wonder and Jackson Five! The entire cast was fantastic and the young boy, Reed Lorenzo Shannon, who played young Michael Jackson in Jackson Five was a stand-out! He was my favorite in the show, because I was amazed how he memorized all those songs and played the role of Michael with such precision! He was uber talented for such a young age. My mom and I, along with the rest of the
